Cordless office phones: the older base station and the new W73
6 August 2026
A technician compares an older cordless phone base station with the newer W73 cordless phones. The new base station can be powered straight from a PoE switch or from an external power supply. He says coverage is about 80 to 100 metres in open space and less through thick walls, and the handsets have a phone book, call logs, call transfer and speed dial.

So what we have in my hands here is [unclear] base station [unclear], but it's also an IP base station which [unclear] gigabit Ethernet as well. This one is an external power supply to power this. Even with a PoE switch you [unclear] use a power supply to power this terminal. [unclear] it cannot be powered by a PoE switch. By a PoE switch it won't work on this one. So, that's the old [unclear] cordless phone. But now we've upgraded to these ones, the W73 cordless phones. With these W73 you can use a W60 base station or W70. This one, the good thing about it, if you have got a PoE switch you just plug it, then the base station is powered. Or if you don't have a PoE switch you can still use an external power supply. So, that's the difference, and even the coverage as well. This one will cover close to about 80 m depending on the area. If there is an open space it can cover 80 to 100 m sometimes, but if the walls are also thick the distance is also limited. That's the difference. We've got more features on these ones as well. You can have your phone book, your call logs, you can transfer your calls, you can create your mini speed dial within the phone. So, this one is the latest version, the cordless phone. This is the one, the big deal in town for now.
