PABX systems in Johannesburg and nationwide, installed and supported by Outsource Digital

Hosted Yeastar P-Series Cloud PBX, Enterprise plan, set up and supported by Outsource Digital.

Outsource Digital installs PABX phone systems for Johannesburg businesses and across South Africa. The modern PABX runs online as a hosted cloud PBX: we take out your old switchboard, set up desk phones, cordless phones and the app, and your office number can come with you.

If your office still runs an old Panasonic or Samsung switchboard, this page sets out the options: what a PABX does, how a hosted cloud PBX takes over its job, and what the switch involves for a business in Johannesburg or anywhere in Gauteng.

What is a PABX, and how does it work?

A PABX (private automatic branch exchange) is the switchboard of an office phone system. It connects your outside lines to the extensions on every desk, so callers can be greeted, put through, transferred and sent to voicemail without anyone patching calls by hand.

A traditional PABX is a box mounted in the office, wired to the phone lines and to each handset. Today the same switchboard can run online instead, and that is what a cloud PBX is.

PABX or cloud PBX: which should a Johannesburg business choose?

Both do the same job. The difference is where the switchboard lives and who looks after it.

We do not sell on-site PABX boxes. For every office we install the hosted Yeastar P-Series Cloud PBX on the Enterprise plan: from small businesses to enterprise customers, including multi-branch enterprises, on one system.

What does a PABX system cost?

We do not publish prices: a PABX quote is worked out for your office. These are the things that move the monthly amount:

  • The number of extensions.
  • The handsets: desk phones, touchscreen phones, cordless phones, or only the app.
  • Whether the agreement is month to month or a longer-term rental.
  • Cabling, if desks need new network points.
  • Moving your existing numbers across.

Upgrade from your old PABX

When an old Panasonic, Samsung or other PABX keeps failing or is out of support, we replace it. We do not take over, repair, service or support other brands of PABX: we take the old system out and set your office up on the hosted Yeastar P-Series.

Depending on your plan, the move brings:

  • Desk phones and the app on cellphones and computers, on the same extensions.
  • An auto attendant that greets callers and puts them through to the right department.
  • Queues and ring groups, so calls reach whoever is free.
  • Voicemail sent to email, and call recording.
  • Call cost reports, so you can see where call spend goes.

Your numbers come with you. Outsource Digital can port all landline numbers to its system, so customers keep their existing numbers. A new customer gets a VoIP number and can port the existing landline across. The old lines stay on until the move is confirmed, so there is no need to cancel anything first.

What does a modern PABX do that my old one cannot?

A hosted system does far more than put calls through. Depending on your plan, it includes:

  • WhatsApp, Facebook, SMS and website live chat, answered from one inbox next to your calls.
  • Microsoft Teams, Outlook and Entra ID, and CRMs such as Zoho CRM, Salesforce, HubSpot, Bitrix24, Odoo, Zoho Desk and Zendesk.
  • Call centre tools: queue callback, skill-based routing, a real-time wallboard, SLA alerts and post-call surveys.
  • Call cost reports and shared phonebooks.
  • Security: encrypted calls (SRTP and TLS), two-factor sign-in, an anti-hacking blocklist, allowed-country rules and limits on outbound call frequency.

Video calls are available on request, and an AI receptionist that answers the calls you miss is available as an add-on.

Which areas do you cover?

Our head office is in Midrand, between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and from there we install and support phone systems across Gauteng: Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Midrand, Pretoria, Centurion, the East Rand and the West Rand.

Outside Gauteng, we support phone systems throughout South Africa and into Namibia and Eswatini, from our Nelspruit branch in Mpumalanga and through service partners in all the major cities.

Who installs and supports the system?

Since 2004, Outsource Digital has looked after office technology for South African businesses. Our in-house PBX, network, field and on-site support technicians do the installation, telephonic and online support handle the day-to-day questions, and service partners in all the major cities back them up.

After installation, a technician attends within 4 to 6 business hours when a fault needs a visit. The video shows our team on an installation day, putting in office phones and Wi-Fi.

How do I get a PABX quote in Johannesburg?

Send us a WhatsApp with the make of your current PABX, how many extensions you have, the numbers you want to keep and your office address. We use that to plan the system and the phones, and to put your quote together.

Questions about PABX systems in Johannesburg

Can you fix my old Panasonic PABX?

No. We do not repair, service or support Panasonic or any other brand of PABX. We replace it with the hosted Yeastar P-Series Cloud PBX, and your office numbers can be ported across.

Do I have to change my phone number when I replace my PABX?

No. Your landline numbers can be ported to the new system, so customers keep calling the numbers they know. The old lines stay on until the move is confirmed.

Do you install PABX systems in Pretoria and Centurion?

Yes. Pretoria and Centurion are covered from our Midrand head office, along with the rest of Gauteng.

Is a cloud PBX the same as a PABX?

It does the same job. A PABX is a switchboard in a box at your office; a cloud PBX is the same switchboard hosted online, so there is nothing to install or maintain on site.

Will my PABX work during load-shedding?

A hosted cloud PBX keeps running online when your office power is off, and staff can answer office calls on the app. Desk phones and the router need backup power, which we can advise on.

How quickly can a technician get to my office in Johannesburg?

A technician attends within 4 to 6 business hours. Your service agreement also covers remote support, so many faults are fixed without a visit.

Do you sell on-site PABX boxes?

No. We install the hosted Yeastar P-Series Cloud PBX for every office, so there is no switchboard box to buy or maintain.
